At that time there were still such walks within a mile of where I lived with my parents. One such was called ‘Lambley Dumbles’ about which I wrote a poem, a fourteen liner that I must revise. I once took of a series of photographs of it, thank goodness, as I’m sure it’ll disappear one day. D.H. Lawrence used to traipse over to nearby Woodthorpe from Eastwood, and his ‘Miriam’, when married, moved there, just behind Arnold Park. He was a great walker and lover of the English countryside, if Sons and Lovers is anything to go by. But I also love that style and look forward to reading the new blog of ‘a retired country gentleman’. I’m sure the chapel at Cheltenham College will be a source of inspiration for someone so expert in the poetry of the Great War.
